The Adelphi University volleyball team concluded their trip to Hawaii with games against BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific. The Panthers took an early lead of 1-0 against BYU-Hawaii, but stumbled in games two and three, falling 3-1. Against Hawaii Pacific Adelphi was even at 1-1 before dropping game three, but rallied in game four to force extra points before falling 3-1. The losses drop Adelphi to 1-3 overall.
Adelphi vs. BYU-Hawaii
The Panthers trailed early 9-5, but an Emily Dorko kill spraked an 8-5 run that pulled Adelphi within one point, 14-13 on a BYU sevice error. From there Adelphi would knot the game at 16, 19, 21 and 22 before two straight BYU mistakes gave the Panthers a two point edge on the way to a 25-23 win.
Adelphi kept momentum in the opening moments of game two, holding an 8-7 lead before a setting error tied the game at eight. From there BYU took control and collected a 24-19 win. Game three was more of the same as the host school opened up a 13-5 lead and never let Adelphi back in the game, claiming a 25-17 win.
The Panthers rallied in game four, knotting the game at 11, but a Heather Mau service error sent BYU on a 6-2 run that turned into a 25-20 BYU win.
Audrey Goss led the way for Adelphi with eight kills, while Kelsey Hackett chipped in seven. Mau handed out 32 assists and for the second game in a row Amy Williams topped the 20 dig mark with 22.
Adelphi vs. Hawaii Pacific
Hawaii Pacific came out hot in game one, turning a 7-7 tie into a 24-13 lead on the way to a 25-14 game one win. However, Adelphi answered back with a 25-21 victory in game two, as the Panthers used a Chelsea Overholt kill to spark a 13-3 run that was capped by a Heather Mau service ace, giving Adelphi a 18-7 win. The Panthers would cap a 25-21 bounce back game two victory with a Hackett kill.
Hawaii Pacific wasted litte time answering Adelphi, as a close early game three turned in to a 25-15 Hawaii Pacific win. But, the Panthers would not go quietly as a tight game throughout was tied 24-24. A Pavels attack error gave Hawaii Pacific a one point lead, but Pavels came right back and collected a kill to not the action at 25. However, an Adelphi error and a Hawaii Pacific kill would close out the game and the match.
Both Hackett and Pavels reached double figure kill totals, as Hackett collected 11 and Pavels added 10 to go along with 11 digs. Mau had a game-high 30 digs and Williams a game-high 19 digs.
Adelphi returns to action on September fourth when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania to participate in the Gannon/Mercyhurst Invitational.
