The Adelphi University volleyball team continued their season opening trip in Hawaii with a 3-2 victory over Chaminade. The Panthers trailed 1-0 after game one, but roared back to take control, 2-1 before picking up the victory with a 16-14 game five triumph. With the win Adelphi evens their overall record at 1-1, while Chaminade falls to 1-1.
Game one was all Chaminade as the host school jumped out to a 8-4 lead on the way to a 25-12 victory. However, Adelphi responded with a 25-23 win in game two, thanks to kills by Audrey Goss, Emily Dorko and Kelsey Hackett during a pivtol stretch that saw the Panthers go from 23-21 down to a 25-23 win.
Adelphi carried the late game momentum from game two into the third game as the Panthers jumped out to a 9-2 lead and shut the door early, claiming a 25-13 win. But, Adelphi could not put Chaminade away in game four, falling 25-18. The Panthers claimed the first lead of more then a point in the final game when Hackett registered a kill, putting Adelphi ahead, 10-8. Chaminade would knot the game at 13 and 14 but two straight attack errors from Chaminade would hand the game to Adelphi.
Dorko led the Panthers with 14 kills, while Hilary Pavels added 10 and 19 digs. Heather Mau recorded 39 assists as Amy Williams posted a game-high 22 digs.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, August 29 when they take on BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific.
