Baseball Cuts Down C.W. Post, 5-3

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team closed out the regular season on Monday, May 4 when they hosted East Coast Conference rival C.W. Post. The Panthers moved out to a 4-0 lead after just three innings and held on for a 5-3 victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 28-14 overall and 17-7 in ECC play, while C.W. Post falls to 13-32 and 10-13.

Adelphi opened the bottom of the first with a walk and a bunt single from Rob Paccione and Thomas Harper. After a wild pitch advanced Paccione, Ryan Boelsen grounded into a double play, but brought Paccione home, giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead.

Paccione reached base again in the bottom of the third and was driven home when Harper stroked a triple. Boelsen followed that up with a single, scoring Harper, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead. After a sacrifice fly advanced Boelsen he crossed the plate courtesy of a Chris Weidlein sacrifice fly, making Adelphi's advantage, 4-0.

Adelphi tacked on their fifth and final run, courtesy of a C.W. Post error and led 5-0. The Pioneers got one run back in the top of the sixth and another two in the top of the seventh but Teddy Rohrs and Jake Potters combined to shut the door and give Adelphi a 5-3 win.

Rob Nixon was credited with the win, throwing six innings, allowing one run and striking out five.

Adelphi returns to action when they take the field in the East Coast Conference tournament as the top seed.
