April 9, 2009

Game One|Game Two

Caldwell, N.J. - The Adelphi softball team dropped a tough non-conference doubleheader at Caldwell College, 5-0 and 9-8, this afternoon. The Panthers fall to 15-9, while the Cougars improve to 20-9-2.

Game One
The Panthers couldn't seem to find their rhythm, as Caldwell's Brittany Pulido allowed just two hits in the game. Adelphi's best chance to score came in the fifth inning with a single by Stephanie Byster and a Christina O'Hara double to advance pinch runner Jessica Vogt to third. However, both runners were left stranded. Robinson kept the Cougars at bay until the fifth innning, when the Danielle Genovese scored, unearned, on a Kyrie Timbrook single, 1-0. Caldwell added four more runs in the sixth inning, including a two RBI double by Genovese.

Robinson recorded the loss in the nine-hitter, allowing five runs, four earned with four walks and two strikeouts.

Game Two
Adelphi pounded out 16 hits in the game, including 12 from the first four batters in the lineup. Seniors Jessica Vogt and Diana DiPiano drove in three runs apiece for the Panthers.

Senior Samantha Johnston scored in the third inning on a Vogt RBI single. Three more Adelphi runs followed in the fourth inning, but the Cougars responded with two runs, 4-2. DiPiano drove in Johnston for her second run in the sixth, then crossed home plate on a RBI single by Kristin Brennan, 6-2. Caldwell kept it close by adding two more runs in the bottom of the inning, 6-4.

The Panthers extended their lead in the seventh inning as Rochelle Noren's triple scored Katie Brophy. Noren then came home on a Vogt single, 8-4. Next, with two Caldwell runners on, Timbrook blasted a three-run homer to left-center to make the score 8-7. The Cougars then proceeded to load the bases on two walks and an error off relief pitcher Marisa Romeo. Then Marisa Tamez roped a single to right field, scoring Kim Aguirre and Patti Garofolo with the tying and winning runs.

Adelphi is back in action on Friday, April 10, as they travel to Rockville Centre, New York, to take on Molloy College in conference play. Live game stats will be available courtesy of Molloy Sports Information.
