Box Score
Garden City, NY -
The visiting Panthers hosted the Knights of Queens College in today's East Coast Conference match-up. Four straight innings of runs put Adelphi up 6-2 after the last pitch, and moved the Panthers to 17-6, 9-1 in conference action.
Adelphi got the bats going in the top of the second when a walk and stolen base by Billy Neubauer put the senior in scoring position, and a single up the middle by Chris Weidlein drove the Panther in. Lucas Romeo followed Weidlein's lead with a single through the middle of his own, and a sacrifice bunt by Craig Matteo moved both base runners into scoring positions. A fielding error on the Knights would bring Weidlein across the plate and put the Panthers up 2-0 going into bottom of the inning.
One inning later the Panthers were able to earn one more run off a sac-fly RBI by Romeo, scoring Ryan Boelsen and moving the score to 3-0. The Knights got on the board in the bottom of the third with a run of their own, but Adelphi would quickly answer with two in the fourth. Robert Paccione began by moving 90 feet off of a throwing error, and the senior was driven home on a double by Mike Tobia. With Tobia in scoring position, senior Matthew Kenney supplied a single up the middle to drive him home to put the score 5-1. The Panthers added an insurance run in the fifth when Romeo singled to bring Neubauer across the plate.
For his five innings of work, six strikeouts and two earned runs, Jason Intelisano was given the win and teammates Oren Rasowsky and Mike Colonna helped close the game out.
The Panthers will come back to life when they travel to Pleasantville, New York to play host Pace University in a non-conference action on April 8. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
