Final Stats

Shirley, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to Shirley, New York for a meeting with East Coast Conference opponent Dowling on Wednesday, April 29. Senior Bill Melillo's RBI single to left scored senior Robert Paccione in the top of the first inning, but it wasn't enough as Adelphi fell to Dowling, 8-2. With the loss, the Panthers fall to a 24-13 overall record, 14-7 in ECC play, while the Golden Lions improve to a 23-12 overall, 13-8 in league action.

Adelphi led 1-0 before surrendering four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Dowling's Colin Barnathan connected with a two-run RBI double to center to give Dowling its first lead of the contest, 2-1, and from there the Golden Lions tacked on three more. Later in the frame, Dowling added two more runs on a two-run RBI single to left off the bat of Ralph Tufano extending their lead to three, 4-1.

Junior Chris Weidlein led-off both the top of the fourth and sixth innings with doubles to left field, to try to spark a comeback for the Panthers. However, Dowling's starting pitcher Gabriel Duran thwarted any potential chase for Adelphi to creep closer as Weidlein was left stranded on both occasions. Weidlein led the Panthers finishing 3-for-4 with one run scored on a passed ball in the top of the eighth inning.

Sophomore Robert Nixon took the loss for the Panthers pitching three innings, allowing four runs on three hits, while striking out three.

Adelphi wraps up their regular season this weekend, Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2 as they take on ECC rival C.W. Post University in a three-game series. The Panthers travel to Brookville, New York on Saturday, May 2 for a doubleheader with C.W. Post starting at 12:00 p.m. and then come back home to William J. Bonomo Memorial Field on Sunday, May 3 for a 1:00 p.m. showdown with the Pioneers.
