Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up by NYIT, 17-11

Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team traveled to Old Westbury, New York on Saturday, April 18 to take on #3 NYIT in an East Coast Conference clash. Adelphi fell behind, 8-1 after one quarter and never recovered falling, 17-11. The loss drops Adelphi to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the ECC, while NYIT improves to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

NYIT started out on fire, ripping off eight straight goals before Adelphi could counter, getting on the board with just three seconds left in the first quarter on an Ian Kuchta tally. Adelphi and NYIT traded goals early in the second quarter before the Panthers reeled off three straight, courtesy of Andrew Ashkenazy, Paul Benedetto and Daniel Gaudet to pull within five, 10-5.

However the Bears responded with two quick goals to close out the half with a 12-6 edge. Adelphi got two goals from Danny Blau and Kevin Kemp in the third quarter to cut the lead to just four, 12-8, but NYIT responded again with three of the next four goals to put the game out of reach at 15-9.

Vitale led the way for Adelphi with seven points on two goals and five assists, while Blau added three goals and Donny Moss added a goal and three assists. Devin Schneiderbauer made nine saves in the loss, while Zachary Bates picked up seven.

Adelphi closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 25 when they travel to Oakdale, New York for a 7:00 pm meeting with Dowling College.
