Box Score

Bridgeport, CT - Adelphi Baseball traveled to Bridgeport, Connecticut to play a single game against the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference match-up. The Panthers posted four runs in the first three innings and added a insurance run in the seventh to put the game out of reach for the Purple Knights, 5-3. With the win, Adelphi moves to 21-11 overall, 13-5 in ECC play, while Bridgeport falls to 9-14,7-10 ECC.

Adelphi began their offense with back-to-back singles in the first by Ryan Boelsen and Bill Melillo, and an error by the Purple Knight first-basemen brought Boelsen in for a 1-0 advantage. The Panthers held Bridgeport scoreless in the bottom of the inning and returned to work in the top of the second by chipping in two more runs. Chris Weidlein began things with double to the left field, and Matthew Kenney reached on an error by the catcher. With runners on first and second, Mike Colonna singled to third base, and an error on the Bridgeport first-basemen allowed all the runners a free base, including Weidlein who took home. One at bat later, Robert Paccione added to the action with a RBI single to left field to drive in Kenney and put the panthers up 3-0.

The Purple Knights chipped away at Adelphi's lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second, but the Panthers would add another in the top of the third on an error by the Bridgeport short-stop, which scored Melillo. Adelphi would hold that two run lead until the bottom of the fourth when the Purple Knights tacked on one more run and cut the lead to one at 4-3.

Two innings of scoreless baseball played out before the Adelphi added insurance to their lead in the seventh on a RBI ground out by Thomas Harper, driving in Paccione. The 5-3 lead would prove to be the final mark of the game and Baseball's win of the series against Bridgeport, two games to one.

Mike Bartlett went four innings pitched for the Panthers, allowing six hits, three earned runs and striking out two. Chris Murphy and Jake Potters aided the junior going 3.1 and 1.2 innings respectfully, each striking out one and allowing no earned runs.

The Panthers will now turn their attention back towards the Golden Lions of Dowling, and finish their series against ECC school on April 21, at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. First pitch will be at 3:30 p.m.
