Freshman Erica Devito tallied all of her game-high five goals in the first half and also chipped in three assists to guide the #1 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 22-4 victory over Philadelphia University. The Panthers remain unblemished at 12-0, while the Rams drop to 7-7.
Sophomore Michelle Ceraso struck first, scoring three of her four goals in the opening 9-0 rally. The Rams got on board in the 13th minute, 9-1. Devito had back-to-back goals to spur the 8-0 run, capped by the first of three goals for Holly Burke with 37 seconds left in the half. The Panthers, which outshot the Rams 33-7, held a commanding 17-1 lead at intermission.
Freshman Marissa Mills kept the run going with a free position goal to open the second half. Senior Rachel Ray made it 19-1 on a feed from Devito with 18:25 left to play. Over the next six minutes, PhilaU combined for three straight goals, two by Kathleen Maurer, 19-4. Ray snapped the rally with a free position goal at 49:22. Junior Danielle Kafarski collected her second goal of the day in the 57th minute on an assist by freshman Tara Gangarossa, 22-4.
Junior Caitlin Fitzpatrick started the first 30:00 minutes in goal to record the win with five saves. Senior Christina Kozakiewicz had one stop. PhilaU's Katherine Sullivan had 16 saves.
The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday, April 22, as they face Dowling College in the first of four straight East Coast Conference match-ups. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
