Adelphi Baseball hosted the Golden Lions of Dowling College in their second meeting of the year. In their last outing in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Panthers got the best of Dowling, 3-0; however, Adelphi was unable to repeat the success and fell to the Golden Lions 4-2. With the loss the Panthers move to 19-10, 11-4 ECC, while Dowling improves to 18-10, 9-6 ECC.
The Panthers got things going with a RBI single to left field off of Bill Melillo's bat, drving in Justin Ciamillo to put Adelphi up 1-0. A half of inning later, the Golden Lions would answer the Panthers with a run of their own to tie it at one all. A quiet third inning led to another one run fourth inning for the Golden Lions to take the lead, 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Robert Paccione got on base with a single to the short stop. A ground-out by Ciamillo advanced the senior to second, and a RBI single to centerfield by Ryan Boelsen was enough to get him home.
With the score at two all in the top of the sixth, starting pitcher Robert Nixon gave up a single, RBI triple and a RBI sacrifice fly. The sophomore recovered and retired the side, but the two run damage was on the bored. Nixon would leave the game after going six innings, giving up six hits and fanning six as well. John Arciuolo would support with 2.2 innings of work, striking out one and Teddy Rohrs closed the game out, striking out one batter.
Six Panthers combined for six hits in the effort, while Dowling had seven hits from four players.
Adelphi will be back in action when they host the University of Bridgeport, April 17, in a double header. First game is scheduled to begin at noon, and the second game will follow.
