Sophomore Stephanie Byster went 5-for-6, including one HR, two runs scored and three RBI to lead Adelphi to a 1-0 and 10-0 (5) sweep of Pace University in a non-conference twinbill this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 21-9, while the Setters fall to 14-15.
Senior Katie Brophy went 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored, while senior Angela Martin was 1-for-1 with two RBI and three runs.
Game One
Adelphi broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning with Byster leading off with a single to left field. After advancing to second on a SAC bunt by senior Kristin Brennan, senior Angela Martin stepped in to pinch run. Brophy's single down the left field line drove in the game-winning run.
Junior Christine Robinson (8-4) pitched the complete four-hitter, with no walks, no strikeouts against 24 batters faced.
Adelphi nad one run on five hits with one error. Pace had no runs on four htis with no errors.
Game Two
Byster's solo homerun in the second inning would prove to be the game-winner. In the third inning Adelphi rattled off nine unanswered runs to seal the five inning win. A error by the Pace 2B put Brophy on first, setting up the RBI single by senior Samantha Johnston. Senior Jessica Vogt drove in the third run, and with runners on second and third, Byster notched a two RBI single, 5-0. In her second at bat, Brophy doubled to right field to push in Brennan and Byster, 7-0. With two runners still on base, Martin's double to left center scored Brophy and O'Hara, 9-0. Martin accounted for the last run of the game, as she came home on a Johnston single.
Sophomore Leighann Bell recorded the win, allowing one hit in three innings. Sophomore Marisa Romeo closed out the game with three hits, striking out one.
Adelphi had 10 runs on 14 hits with no errors. Pace had no runs on four hits with one error.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow, April 16, hosting Mercy College in a conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
