Box Score
Garden City, NY -
The rain and cold didn't hamper the Panthers' performance, as they picked up a 4-3 win hosting the Knights of Queens College. The Brown and Gold were able to get on top of a 2-1 game in the third with three runs and hold it for the Panthers' fifth straight ECC win, and an improvement to 13-5 overall. The Knights fall to 1-11, 0-7 with the loss.
The Knights got on the board first with a run in the first, however, a ground out by Bill Melillo was able to score Thomas Harper and tie it at one all. The score remained unchanged until the third when Queens tallied another run before waiting for the Diamondmen's rebuttal. Robert Paccione began things with a single to center field and then followed with a stolen base to put himself on second. Ryan Boelsen joined the attack with a walk. A double steal by Paccione and Boelsen put both men in scoring postion and a throwing error on Queens was able to score both. Melillo, who reached because of the error, advanced to second base on the throw; himself now in scoring position. It would then be intrusted to Matthew Kenney to deliver Melillo. The senior answered with a RBI single to right field and moved the score to 4-2.
Chris Pabisch carried the 4-2 lead through the seventh inning before handing the ball off to Robert Nixon. Pabisch gave up six hits, and struck out six batters in his outing. Nixon work got two Knights out before handing the ball over to Mike Colonna, who struck out two in his 1.1 innings of work, which included save.
The Panthers will continue their home stand when they host Mercy College on April 2 at 3:30 p.m.
