The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team traveled to Manchester, New Hampshire on Saturday, March 7 to take on Northeast-10 conference member Saint Anselm College. The Panthers took a 7-3 lead into the half and held on for a 11-10 win. With the victory Adelphi improves to 3-1 overall, while Saint Anselm falls to 0-2.
Adelphi got on the board quick scoring two goals in the first two minutes of play. Saint Anselm answered back with a goal at the 12:06 mark of the first quarter, but the Panthers responded with five straight, taking a 7-1 lead halfway through the second quarter. Saint Anselm would stem the bleeding, getting two goals back before the half, making it a 7-3 game.
Saint Anselm would trade goals with Adelphi early in the third and then pulled within three goals, 9-6 at the mid-point of the third period. However, Adelphi goals from Joe Vitale and Kevin Kemp returned the Panther cushion to five, 11-6.
Adelphi's lead was cut back to three goals when the home team scored twice in the last 90 seconds of the third, including scoring with one second on the clock. Saint Anselm then held the Panthers scoreless in the fourth, scoring two more goals to pull within one, 11-10 with 6:54 to play. But, the Adelphi defense held strong, pulling out the win.
Eddie Ege led the way for Adelphi with seven points on six assists and one goal. Both Kemp and Vitale chipped in three goals while Zach Bates made nine saves.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 14 when they host Bentley in Garden City, New York at 7:00 pm.
