The Brown and Gold Claim Two In Doubleheader Against STAC

March 28, 2009

Game One|Game Two

Garden City, NY - Adelphi Baseball playing host to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas, picked up two wins in the East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader match-up. The Diamondmen battled the Spartans to a 1-0 win in game one, and followed with a 3-0 victory in game two. With the wins, the Panthers improve to 10-5 overall, 3-0 in the ECC, while STAC falls to 5-12, 0-2 ECC.

Game One
A pitching duel between Keith Couch and Brian LaMarr fueled the first seven innings of the pass-time, with both teams stranding runners in the process. In the bottom of the seventh, Mike Colonna came up to bat and put the ball in play with a single to left field. Robert Paccione followed the senior with a ground out to second, which advanced Colonna to second base. With a man in scoring position, Thomas Harper took the plate, and with a well placed single, drove Colonna home for a 1-0 lead. The Brown and Gold would hold that score and put it in the books for Adelphi.

Keith Couch picked up a complete game in the win; 2 hits against, 0 earned runs with 11 strikeouts facing 31 batters. LaMarr of STAC was credited with the loss going 7.0 innings and giving up nine hits.

Game Two
The Panthers came out of the dugout for game two right where they left off. Paccione began the first with a lead off single and Ryan Boelsen's single to right field brought the center fielder home for the Diamondmen's first run of the game. The Panthers threatened the Spartans in the third when Robert Paccione reached third base, however, it would be the fourth when they would notch a run off of a long ball by Billy Neubauer. The final run in the Panthers' 3-0 effort came in the sixth when Ciamillo singled, reached second on a passed ball and was driven home by Matthew Kenny on a single.

Robert Nixon was credited with the win after going the full 7.0 innings, allowing two hits and fanning five. Mike Aviles went 6.0 innings in the loss and gave up eight hits and three earned runs.

The Panthers will return to action, March 29th, when they host the final game of this series at 1:00 p.m.
