Men's Lacrosse Doubles Up Dominican, 14-7

Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team traveled to Orangeburg, New York on Saturday, March 28 to face East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Dominican College. Adelphi led 5-2 at the half and used a six goal third quarter to secure a 14-7 victory. With the win the Panthers improve to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in ECC play, while Dominican falls to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Adelphi bookended the first quarter, getting a goal from Joe Vitale at the 14:07 mark to open the action and then saw Eddie Ege find the back of the net with 2:20 to go to close out the quarter. The Panthers kept rolling in the second as Paul Benedetto and Ege hooked up twice in a 90 second span to give Adelphi a 4-0 lead with 10:26 on the clock.

Dominican would get two goals back late in the quarter, as the Chargers made the score 4-2 with 1:41 left in the quarter. But, Ege found an open Ian Kuchta who in turn found the back of the Charger goal with 39 ticks left in the half to give the Panthers a 5-2 cushion.

Adelphi used the third quarter to put the game out of reach, scoring six of the eight goals scored in the first 10 minutes of play in the third period. The Panthers got two goals from Benedetto and Christian Colantuoni, while both Andrew Ashkenazy and Donny Moss chipped in a goal.

The Panthers would enter the fourth quarter with an 11-6 edge, which was cut to 11-7 in the opening minutes by Dominican. However, Adelphi would turn up the defense, holding the Chargers scoreless for the final 11:30 of play, and netted three goals of their own to claim a 14-7 win.

Ege led the way for Adelphi with six points on five assists and one goal, while Benedetto chipped in four goals and an assist. Zachary Bates picked up nine saves in the win, while Ashkenazy won 19 of 23 face-offs taken.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 4 when they play host to ECC rival Molloy College at 4:00 pm.
