Men's Lacrosse Dropped by Merrimack, 12-9

North Andover, MA - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team traveled to North Andover, Massachusetts on Thursday, March 26 to take on fourth ranked Merrimack. Merrimack took an early 3-1 lead but Adelphi battled back, knotting the game at seven in the third. However, it would not be enough as the Panthers fell, 12-9, dropping their overall record to 2-4.

Merrimack opened the scoring at the 11:47 mark of the first quarter, but Adelphi's Joe Vitale would answer back with 6:55 on the clock, knotting the game at one. The hosts would bounce right back, scoring two unanswered goals, the second coming with one second on the clock, to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

Adelphi got early goals from Eddie Ege and Andrew Ashkenazy to tie the game at three, but Merrimack would respond with two of their own, taking a 5-3 lead. Edmund Jules and Ashkenazy reeled off two more for Adelphi, but again the hosts got two quick ones to push the lead back to two, 7-5. With 2:08 to play in the second Paul Benedetto slipped one past the Merrimack goalkeeper to pull Adelphi to within one goal, 7-6 at the half.

Benedetto opened the third period just like he ended the second, with a goal, knotting the game at seven. However, Merrimack would score five of the final seven goals to secure a 12-9, non-conference win.

Ege led the way for Adelphi with five points on two goals and three assists, while Ashkenazy (two goals), Benedetto (two goals) and Danny Blau (one goal, one assist) all chipped in two points. Zachary Bates made 12 stops in goal.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 28 when they travel to Orangeburg, New York to take on Dominican College.
