The Adelphi Softball team cruised to an 8-0, 1-0 win over Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers improve to 8-4 on the season, while the Skyhawks drop to 0-12.
Game One
The Panthers were hot to start the game, as the first four runners reached base in the bottom of the first. Senior Jessica Vogt drove in junior Rochelle Noren on a RBI double, before crossing home on a RBI single by senior Diana DiPiano.
Adelphi exploded in the sixth inning, picking up six earned runs, while the Skyhawks were held to just one hit over their final two at bats. Kristin Brennan scored on a single by senior Samantha Johnston, followed by a two RBI single by Noren. Vogt blasted a three run homer to allow the Panthers to walk away with the five inning 8-0 victory.
Christine Robinson pitched the three-hitter, walking two and striking out three.
Adelphi had eight runs on 12 hits with one error. Stonehill had no runs on three hits with one error.
Game Two
Stonhill pitcher Kellie Reardon held Adelphi to just two hits over the first four innings, while the Skyhawks weren't able to get a hit over that same time span.
In the seventh inning, senior ­­­Katie Brophy reached on a single to start the inning and eventually reached third on two sacrifices. Noren singled home the game winner.
Sophomore Leighann Bell finished with a no-hitter for the Panthers, with no walks and fanning nine.
Adelphi had one run on six hits with one error. Stonhill had no runs on no hits with two errors.
Adelphi is back in action tomorrow, as they host Saint Anslem at 12 noon.
