Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team played host to Mercyhurst College on Saturday, March 21 in Garden City, New York. The Panthers built a 7-6 lead in the first half but a second half Laker surge gave the visitor's a 17-10 win. The loss drops Adelphi to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the East Coast Conference, while Mercyhurst improves to 4-1 and 1-0 in conference play.

Adelphi led, 7-6, at the end of the first half, but the Lakers scored six of the next seven goals to take a 12-8 advantage with 3:17 remaining in the third quarter. Adelphi junior Kevin Kemp scored three minutes into the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to three, but the Mercyhurst put the game away scoring four consecutive goals and won by a tally of 17-10.

Junior Michael Sciulli's goal 12 seconds into the second half tied the game at seven for the Lakers. It was Kemp responding again for the Panthers as he shot a bullet, off an assist by Eddie Ege, past the Lakers senior goalie Jason LaShomb giving the Panthers its final lead of the afternoon 8-7.

Sciulli answered once again and Kemp scored his third goal on a man-up situation off an assist by senior Mike Bartlett to tie the game at eight with 11:43 shown in the third quarter. Sciulli had a game-high five goals, four of which came in the second half. 56 seconds after Sciulli tied the game at eight, teammate Bartlett's even strength goal with 10:47 remaining in the third put the Lakers back on top for good 9-8 and from there the floodgates opened.

Mercyhurst began the contest scoring five of the first six goals and took a 5-1 advantage with 10:53 left to play in the first half. Graduate student Andrew Ashkenazy scored the lone Panther goal during the Lakers run as he received the ball from freshman Danny Blau and fired a rocket in the upper left hand corner.

Trailing 5-1, the Panthers rapidly picked up their play scoring six of the next seven goals to close the first half. Four different Panther players scored during the streak. The span was highlighted by Kemp's two goals to end the first 30 minutes of play.

For the Panthers, Kemp led the team with four goals and junior goalie Zachary Bates recorded 17 saves in the loss.
