Men's Lacrosse Drops, 11-10, decision to Bentley

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team played host to Northeast-10 conference member Bentley on Saturday, March 14 in Garden City, New York. Adelphi took a 10-8 lead into the final 10:21, but could not hold on, falling 11-10. The loss drops Adelphi to 3-2 overall, while Bentley opens the season at 1-0.

The Falcons got on the board first, scoring just 22 seconds into the game, but Adelphi responded with authority, ripping off three straight goals as Kevin Kemp, Joe Vitale and Ian Kuchta all found the back of the net. Bentley came right back, reeling off four goals of their own to take a 5-3 lead at the 7:16 mark of the second quarter.

Adelphi and Bentley then traded goals twice, keeping the Falcon lead at two goals, 7-5 with 4:20 left in the third quarter. Then the Panthers came alive, scoring five of the next six goals over a five and a half minute span to hold a 10-8 lead with 13:07 left in the game.

At that point Bentley kept chipping away, cutting the Panther lead to one goal with 10:21 to play and then knotting the game at 10 with 8:50 on the clock. The Falcons would net the game winner at the 5:31 mark as Andy Curtis took a feed from Kevin Gould to give Bentley a 11-10 win.

Kemp led the way with five points on four goals and an assist, while Vitale added two goals and two assists. Eddie Ege also netted a goal and handed out an assist, while Andrew Ashkenazy won 8 of 14 face-offs. Zachary Bates made 12 saves in net for Adelphi.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 21 when they play host to Mercyhurst College at 12:00 pm.
