March 15, 2009

Box Score

Boca Raton, FL - The Adelphi University baseball team took on East Coast Conference rival Dowling College on Saturday, March 14 in Boca Raton, Florida. Ryan Boelsen provided two RBI in the sixth inning, which was more then enough runs for Adelphi to secure a 3-0 win. With the win Adelphi improves to 4-4, while Dowling falls to 6-3.

Dowling pitcher Gabriel Duran took to the mound looking to extend his scoreless and hitless start to the season, however, a single off the bat of Ryan Boelsen in the first inning put that to rest quickly. But, Duran would hold the Panthers scoreless over the first 5 innings.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Adelphi would push across the first runs of the game. Boelsen would strike again, this time with a two RBI double down the left field line to give the Panthers a two run lead. Adelphi tacked on another run in the bottom of the 8th inning on an RBI groundout from Bill Melillo to take a 3-0 lead.

Despite outhitting the Panthers 9-4, the Golden Lions would not plate a run on the day, falling by a final score of 3-0. Robert Nixon earned the win on the mound for Adelphi. Nixon threw seven shut out innings while striking out four.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, March 18 when they host Dominican College at 3:30 pm.
