Panthers Sweep In First Day of Rebel Games

Kissimee, Fla. - Senior Diana DiPiano went 4-for-7 with three runs batted in, two doubles and one run scored in the first two games for the Adelphi University softball team as they swept Upper Iowa University, 1-0, and Stonehill College, 7-5, in day one of the Rebel Games. The Panthers open the season with a 2-0 record.

Senior Kristin Brennan also had a strong day, hitting .571 (4-7) with two RBI, one run scored and three stolen bases.

Game One
The Panthers broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when junior Katie Brophy singled then stole second on a ground out by senior Jessica Vogt. She then advanced to third on a wild pitch, setting up the Brennan RBI single which drove in the winning run.

Junior Christine Robinson pitched 6.2 innings for the win, allowing five hits, no runs, walking one and striking out five.

Adelphi had one run on six hits with one error. Upper Iowa had no runs on five hits and no errors.

Game Two
The Panthers jumped out to an early first inning lead when a DiPiano double drove in Vogt who reached on a double then advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Breenan picked up her second RBI single of the day as she pushed home Brophy to give Adelphi a 2-0 lead.

The Skyhawks surged ahead in the fourth inning, taking advantage of three Panther errors to pick up five runs in three hits and pull ahead, 5-2.

In the sixth inning, sophomore Deandra Leo drove in DiPiano, followed by a two RBI double by sophomore Stephanie Byster to score senior Angela Martin and Brennan and knot the score, 5-5. DiPiano followed up with a two-run double in the sixth inning to seal the victory.

Sophomore Marisa Romeo recorded the win, pitching 3.1 innings in relief, allowing three hits, one walk and one strike.

Adelphi had seven runs and 11 hits with three errors. Stonehill had five runs on seven hits with no errors.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow when they take on Minnesota State-Mankato at 9:00 a.m., followed by LeMoyne at 11:00 a.m.
