Adelphi Women Shut Out AIC, 21-0

Garden City, N.Y. - Freshman Erica Devito tallied four goals to lead the #2 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 21-0 victory over visiting American International College. The Panthers improve to 2-0, while the Yellowjackets drop to 0-1.

Junior Holly Burke and sophomore Michelle Ceraso also registered multiple goals, contributing three apiece, with a total of 14 different players scored in the Panther win.

Adelphi came out strong in the contest, riddling the AIC goal with 30 shots. Ceraso put the Panthers on board in the second minute on a free position shot. Vanessa Sotcheff made it 10-0 at 18:07 on an feed from senior Rachel Ray. Freshman Arielle Burke had the last word of the first half, scoring on an assist from senior Laura Bennett to make it 18-0. This sets a new first half scoring record for the Panthers, whose previous teams had twice scored 17 goals in a first half.

The Panthers pulled back the reigns in the second half, taking just four shots and connecting on three. Junior Corinne Pingitore scored on an assist by freshman Courtney Acker with 27:32 left on the clock to make it 20-0.

Junior Caitlin Fitzpatrick recorded the win with 30 minutes in goal and two saves. Senior Christina Kozakiewicz minded the net for the second half, making three saves. This marks the first Adelphi shutout since March 14, 2007 when they shutout Assumption, 16-0. Gina Gallo had five stops for AIC.

The Panthers return to action next Sunday, March 8, when they travel to Colchester, Vermont to take on St. Michael's at 12:00 p.m.
