Adelphi Women Overpower Concordia, 100-50

Bronxville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team held host Concordia College to just 15.4% from the field and led 42-10 after the first half en route to a 100-50 conference win at the Meyer Athletic Center this evening. The Panthers improve to 13-13 overall and 10-7 in the ECC. The Clippers fall to 4-22 and 2-15 in the league.

Every member of the Panther squad recorded stats in the victory, with five players scoring in double figures. Sophomore Ashley Caiafa led all scorers with 19 points. Senior Lisa Manetta had 15 points and four assists, while senior Serita Lee contributed 14 points and pulled down 14 boards. Senior Jasmine Travers posted a season best 12 points while dishing out six assists and junior Hunter Marek chipped in 10.

The Clippers scored the opening shot at 17:58 before the Panthers surged ahead on a 24-4 run. Caiafa had 10 points in the first stanza. Adelphi's defense shut down Concordia, forcing 11 turnovers,while pulling down 30 rebounds, 12 offensive. The Clippers conected on just 4-of 26 from the field, while the Panthers shot 43.9 percent and cruised to a 42-10 lead at intermission.

Despite Concordia shooting a much improved 45.8 percent, the second half was much of the same. Adelphi connected on 20-of-38, or 52.6 percent as its lead ballooned to has much as 52 points, 86-34, with 5:21 left to play.

On the game, Adelphi had 16 steals and caused 30 Concordia turnovers. They outrebound the Clippers 45-30 in the contest and went 79.2 % from the free throw line.

Brittany Binnie scored 17 points and seven rebounds for Concordia.

The last time Adelphi scored 100 points in a contest was on December 15, 2001 at NYIT, 103-53. The largest recored margin of victory, 65 points, came on January 30, 1996 vs. Concordia.

The Panthers will bring a two game win streak into their regular season finale on Saturday, February 28, as they host C.W. Post at 5:30 p.m. Adelphi will be fighting for home court advantage in the ECC Tournament and a win over the Pioneers should secure that spot.
