Men's Basketball Rips Mercy, 76-47

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to Dobbs Ferry, New York to take on Mercy College on Wednesday, February 18 in an East Coast Conference (ECC) contest. The Panthers led 34-25 at the half and used a 42-22 second half to collect a 76-47 win. With the victory Adelphi improves to 17-7 overall and 11-4 in the conference, while Mercy falls to 0-24 overall and 0-15 in the ECC.

Adelphi took control from the tip, opening the game with a 12-0 run that was capped by an Alvin Vivican triple with 15:04 on the clock. The Panthers then used a 15-7 run over the next eight minutes, capped by another Vivican three, to push their edge to 20 points, 27-7.

Mercy countered with a 18-7 burst, over a six minute span to pull within seven points, 32-25, with 57 seconds left in the half. A Norron McDonald lay-up 30 seconds later gave Adelphi a 34-25 lead, that they would take into halftime.

The Panthers opened the second half, similiar to the first, running off 15 points to take a 24 point lead, 51-27, with 13:56 on the clock. Mercy would never recover from that run, and could never get closer then 22 points, falling 76-47.

Ed Wilson led the way for Mercy with 15 points, while Justin McMullen chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds. Michael Marin also reached double figures scoring 10 points.

Vivican was the high man for Adelphi with 17 points, David Akinyooye added 13 points off the bench, while Casey Cosgrove scored 11 points. Richard Byrd also reached double figures, scoring 10 points and handing out six assists.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, February 21 when they play host to Dowling College at 3:00 pm.
