The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to Princeton, New Jersey on Wednesday, October 7 to take on Ivy League member school Princeton. The Panthers struck in the 27th minute, but the Tigers would score the equalizer and hold on for the tie. With the tie Adelphi's overall record sits at 7-1-3, while Princeton stands at 4-4-1.
Adelphi got on the scoreboard in the 27th minute as Brandon Stoneham found Issa Tall at the top of the Princeton penalty area. Tall collected the ball and sent it into the lower left corner of the Tiger net, past Sean Lynch, giving Adelphi a 1-0 advantage that they would take into the half.
Princeton finally broke through the Adelphi defense in the 80th minute when Brandon Busch struck a free kick toward the Panther goal. Max Hare was able to get a foot on the ball, redirecting it into the Adelphi goal and knotting the game at one.
Depsite two, ten minute overtime periods no one was able to find the back of the goal, ending the game tied at one. Princeton had the bulk of shots at goal, 24-9 and had two more corner kicks then Adelphi 5-3.
Thorne Holder kept Adelphi in the game with six stops, while Lynch made four in the win.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, October 10 when they play host to Atlantic Soccer Conference opponent Howard at 3:00 pm.
