Men's Soccer Halts the Highlanders, 3-1

Newark, NJ - The Adelphi men's soccer team traveled to Newark, New Jersey on Friday, October 30 to close out the Atlantic Soccer Conference portion of their schedule against NJIT. Adelphi ripped off the first three goals of the game on the way to a 3-1 victory. With the win the Panthers improve to 10-2-4 overall and 2-1-1 in the ASC, while NJIT falls to 4-13 and 1-2 in conference action.

Adelphi scored the only goal of the first half in the 36th minute as James Diana sent a ball into the NJIT box, pulling Ryan Sutherland off his line. Sutherland was unable to collect the ball, which was picked up by Domenico Parrelli, who slipped the ball into the Highlander net.

Diana scored a goal of his own in the second half, as Sam Vanaria found Brandon Stoneham, who sent the ball into Diana. Diana was able to get a head on the ball and direct it past Sutherland into the back of the goal, giving Adelphi a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute.

The Panthers closed out their scoring in the 74th minute of action as Val Charalambous bended a corner kick from the left side, around the near post and into the goal. Charalambous' tally gave Adelphi an insurmountable 3-0 lead.

NJIT notched their goal in the 87th minute of play as Franco Gamero picked up a ball that was cleared by Thorne Holder and ripped a shot into the netting of the Panther goal.

Holder made eight saves in the win, while Sutherland was credited with two in the loss.

Adelphi returns to action on November 3 when they play host to Columbia University at 7:00 pm.
