The Adelphi University women's soccer team fell behind early and were never able to sustain a rally, falling 2-0 to Saint Anselm in conference action this afternoon. The Panthers fall to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in the Northeast-10, while the Hawks improve to 6-4-1 and 5-3 in the league.
Michelle Dickson set up a pass to Jennifer Pearl which led to a goal for Saint Anslem just 6:41 into the contest. The Panthers had nine shots in the first half, and four on goal, but each was stopped by goalkeeper Jacqueline Cooney.
Adelphi continued to lead the charge in the second half, with a 7-4 shot advantage but each attempt was thwarted. In the second half Pearl assisted on the insurance goal by Teresa Vercollone on a free kick in the 69th minute.
Cooney finished the game with eight saves for the shutout, while sophomore Dorothy Connolly made three saves for the Panthers.
Adelphi returns to action next Saturday, October 10, as they host Southern New Hampshire at 6:00 p.m. The game takes place as part of the Panthers' Homecoming Celebration which includes four home games beginning with field hockey at 12 noon, volleyball at 1:00 pm and men's soccer at 3:00 p.m.
