Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. -

The Adelphi University field hockey hosted #5 Stonehill College this afternoon on Competition Field. With all the scoring coming in the second half, the Skyhawks held on for the 2-1 victory. The win improves Stonehill to 10-2 and 4-0 in the Northeast-10, while Adelphi falls to 7-5 and 2-1 in the conference.

Stonehill controlled possession throughout the first half, however, the Panthers defense kept them in it and the score even at 0-0. The Skyhawks got off seven shots to the Panthers two, while holding the advantage in penalty corners 7-1.

The Skyhawks broke the scoreless tie, 8:50 into the second half, when Courtney Foley beat sophomore Lucia Vigliotti for the goal on a penalty stroke. Less than three minutes after Foley's score, freshman Cassie Cabral evened the score when she took the rebound from sophomore Jeanette Heimerle's shot and fired it past Courtney Osier. Stephanie Kott would then find Claire Hourihan to give the Skyhawks a one-goal lead with 21:05 remaining in regulation. Hourihan's goal would prove to be the game-winner as Stonehill came away with the victory.

For Stonehill, Osier recorded two saves in the win, while Vigliotti stopped four shots for the Panthers.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 10 when they play host to Franklin Pierce University on Competition Field at 12:00 pm.
