Field Hockey Defeats #5 UMass Lowell, 2-1

The Adelphi University field hockey team hosted #5 UMass Lowell this afternoon on Competition Field. With the score tied 1-1 with less than 13 minutes remaining, Jessica Mulhern scored the game-winning goal for the upset. The Panthers improve to 12-7 and 7-3 in the Northeast-10, while the River Hawks fall to 15-4 and 7-3 in the conference.

The Panthers struck first and early, 9:24 into the contest, when Brittany Kinsley and Lindsay Williams set up Jeanette Heimerle for the goal off a penalty corner. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead into the half even with UMass Lowell having a 6-3 advantage in shots.

UMass Lowell would apply the pressure for most of the second half and would eventually even the score with less than 13 minutes left in regualtion, when Katie Enaire scored on an unassisted goal. The Panthers would then answer right back, 1:43 after Enaire's score, when Danielle Demola beat the defense and found Mulhern for the one-timer and the game-winning goal.

Lucia Vigliotti recorded six saves in the win, while Amy Carbon set aside three shots in defeat.

The Panthers will now wait to hear their seeding and opponent for the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament on Wednesday, October 28.
