The Adelphi University field hockey team played host to Assumption College this afternoon on Competition Field. The Panthers scored two first half goals en route to the 3-1 victory. Adelphi improves to 11-7 and 6-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds finish the season 3-15 and 1-9 in the NE-10.
The Panthers struck first, 10:33 into the contest, when Brittany Kinsley scored her fifth goal of the season with the assists coming from Jeanette Heimerle and Lindsay Williams. The Greyhounds would even the score at 1-1, 21:07 in, when Britt Allen found April Brunelle off a penalty corner. With 42 second remaining in the first half, Williams would add her second assist of the afternoon when she set up Julianne Gerbino for her team-leading 16th goal of the season.
Adelphi would dominate the second half, holding Assumption to no shots and just three penalty corners, while getting off seven of their own. The Panthers third goal came from Crystal Gray, which was set up by Heimerle for her second assist of the game.
Lucia Vigliotti recorded one save in the win, while Danielle Luongo stopped four shots in defeat for the Greyhounds.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season on Saturday, October 24 when they play host to UMass Lowell at 12:00 pm on Competition Field.
