The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to Houston, Texas to take on Atlantic Soccer Conference opponent Houston Baptist on Saturday, October 17. The host Huskies scored twice early in the second half, but Adelphi answered midway through the action, but could not find the equalizer, falling 2-1. With the loss Adelphi falls to 8-2-4 overall and 1-1-1 in the ASC, while Houston Baptist improves to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The first half was scoreless as Adelphi held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots. Michael Bouchahine made one save, while the Panthers' Thorne Holder was active between the pipes making three saves.
That tie lasted just three minutes into the second half as Dan Dwyer headed a corner kick off the foot of Andrew Collins into the net. Six minutes later, Adi Mesic gave the hosts a 2-0 cushion as he also found the back of the Panther net.
Adelphi came alive in the 61st minute as Sam Vanaria sent a ball into the Huskie penalty area that found the head of Alex Kouznetsov. Kouznetsov was able to redirect Vanaria's effort past Houston Baptist goalkeeper, Bouchahine and into the net, pulling the Panthers within one, 2-1. However, despite the Panthers best efforts they could not net the equalizer, falling 2-1.
Bouchahine ended the game making one save while earning his fourth win on the season. Holder made three saves in his first loss on the year.
Adelphi returns to action on October 21 when they travel to Syracuse, New York for a 7:00 pm meeting with the Orange.
