The Adelphi University women's soccer team played Franklin Pierce to a 1-1 in double-overtime conference action this afternoon. The Panthers move to 8-4-2 and 6-4-2, while the Ravens are now 12-3-1 and 10-2-1.
Junior Emily Dunne gave the Panthers the early lead in the 30th minute. Senior Caitlin Morrison sent a cross pass to a waiting Dunne, who slipped the ball into the lower left corner.
The Ravens offense picked up the intensity in the second half, evident by a 13-8 shot advantage. It paid off in the 56th minute as Gabriela Demoner found the back of the net on a loose ball. Sophomore goalie Dorothy Connolly made four of her nine saves in the final 35 minutes of regulation to force overtime.
Adelphi struggled in overtime and was unable to set up a shot. In contrast, Franklin Pierce managed seven chances in the extra minutes, with Connolly making two key saves in the second overtime stanza.
Overall, Franklin Pierce outshot Adelphi 28-13 in the contest with a 6-2 corner kick advantage. Casey Edward made six stops for the Ravens.
The Panthers, who hold onto the #5 spot in the Northeast-10 standings, will return to action on Tuesday, October 20, as they host the University of New Haven at 6;00 p.m.
