Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to Longwood University in an Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) contest on Tuesday, October 13. The Panthers got three goals from Issa Tall en route to a 3-1 conference victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 8-1-4 overall and 1-0-1 in ASC action, while Longwood falls to 2-9-2 overall and remains winless in conference play at 0-2.

It did not take long for Adelphi to get on the board as Tall collected a misplayed ball from the Longwood defense, moved around a defender and then side stepped Lancer goalie, Joel Helmick, sliding the ball into the near side of an empty net. Tall's tally in the sixth minute gave the Panthers a quick 1-0 edge.

Just four minutes later Tall struck again, this time with some help from Dan Larenius. Larenius took advantage of a Adelphi free kick, curving the ball from just outside the penalty box around the Longwood wall toward a diving Tall. He was able to get his head on the ball, redirecting it into the back of the Lancer net, giving Adelphi a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the action.

The Lancers responded in the 12th minutes as Marcus Dixon played a ball that sliced through the Adelphi defense, finding the feet of Harvey Headley, who beat Adelphi's Thorne Holder for Longwood's only score of the day.

In the very next minute Tall would push Adelphi's cushion back to two goals as he again collected a misplayed Longwood ball and beat Helmick for the third time, sending this effort into the near side of the goal.

The first half ended with Adelphi ahead 3-1, which is how the game would end. However, Longwood put pressure on the Panthers in the final 20 minutes of action, taking several close range shots which were turned away by Holder, who earned the win with five total saves, four of which came in the second frame.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, October 17 when they take on Houston Baptist in an ASC clash at 7:00 pm.
