Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Karen Roveto broke a scoreless tie at 89:34 to lift the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University tonight at Competition Field. The Panthers improve to 8-4 and 6-4 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen drop to 3-9-3 and 1-7-3 in the conference.

Adelphi held a 6-4 shot advantage over SNHU in the first half, including five shots on goal. In contrast, sophomore goalkeeper Dorothy Connolly was tested just once in the first 45 minutes.

The Panthers continued to control the momentum in the second half, taking nine shots with four corner kick advantages. But it wasn't until the final 30 seconds of regulation that they were able to convert. Roveto's solo shot came just left of the top of the box, sneaking past the Penmen's Stef Young.

Young finished with nine saves, while Connolly made four stops in the shutout win.

The Panthers' win capped a solid day of sports for Adelphi, with four home contests taking place as part of Homecoming Weekend. Field Hockey topped Franklin Pierce, 1-0, in overtime, followed by a 3-0 win for the volleyball team over Assumption. The men's soccer team played Howard University to a 0-0 tie in Atlantic Soccer Conference action.

Women's Soccer returns to action on Wednesday, October 14, as they travel to Worchester, Massachusetts to take on Assumption College at 3:30 p.m.
