Men's Basketball Falls to Bridgeport, 68-62

Bridgeport, CT - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to Bridgeport, Connecticut on Saturday, January 31 to face the University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference contest. The Panthers fell to Bridgeport, despite a 21 point, six rebound, four assist performance from Casey Cosgrove. The loss drops Adelphi to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in the ECC, while Bridgeport improves to 13-6 and 7-3.

The first half opened with two ties and three lead changes in the first seven minutes of action before Adelphi used a 8-0 run, capped by a Cosgrove triple to turn a 12-12 tie into a 20-12 lead. Bridgeport countered with a 10-2 run, pulling within two points, 24-22, with 7:55 remaining in the half.

The score was knotted twice more in the first half, before the Purple Knights turned a 28-28 game into a 33-30 lead with 55 seconds on the clock. Another Cosgrove three tied the game for the fifth time at 33, but a Bridgeport jumper with three seconds left gave the Purple Knights a 35-33 lead at the half.

The game went back and forth again in the second half with four more ties, until Bridgeport turned a 44-44 game into a 53-45 lead with 11:11 on the clock. Adelphi stayed in the game and pulled to within one, 61-60, on a Cosgrove lay-up with 3:24 on the clock.

The Purple Knights answered back right away with a jumper and never looked back, collecting a 68-62 win.

Bridgeport was led by Dave Boykin's 18 points, while Demetrious Phillips chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds. Teairez Stennis added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Cosgrove's 21 points led the way for Adelphi, while Sky Khaleel added 15 points and five rebounds. Richard Byrd also scored double figures, chipping in 10 points and nine rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, February 4 when they travel to Flushing, New York for a 7:00 pm meeting with Queens.
