Women's Basketball Falls at C.W. Post, 75-66

Brookville, N.Y. - Despite outshooting their opponent 39-34 in the second half, the Adelphi University women's basketball team was unable to close the gap, falling to C.W. Post, 75-66, on Wednesday night at the Pratt Center. The Pioneers improve to 7-9 and 5-4 in the ECC, while the Panthers fall to 9-9 and 6-3 in the conference.

Sophomore Ashley Caiafa was one of three Panthers in double figures, scoring 25 points. Freshman Theresa Foley had 12 points and a team-best 10 rebounds, while senior Lisa Manetta had 10 points and four assists.

The Pioneers were hot from the opening tip-off, connecting on 17-of-28 attempts from the floor. In contrast, the Panthers shot 36.4 percent and trailed by 20, 39-19 with 2:02 left in the first half. Caiafa scored four of Adelphi's points on a 8-2 run, closing the gap to 14, 41-27, at intermission.

Caiafa contined her strong play into the second half, accounting for eight of the Panthers' opening 10 points to make it 48-36 with 14:40 to go. However the Pioneers had big help from Jasmine Moore who registered 31 points in the contest.

Both teams were matched with 32 rebounds and 24 turnovers each. Adelphi held an advantage at the free throw line, picking up 24 points in comparison to C.W. Post's 13. The difference was from the field, as the Pioneers finished wtih 52.8 percent, while the Panthers hit 38.8 percent.

Other Pioneers in double figures were Noelle Pawlicki with 21 points and Whitney Murrer with 13 points and seven boards.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday as they travel to the University of Bridgeport for a 1:00 p.m. conference match-up.
