Men's Basketball Clipped by C.W. Post, 67-61

Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled across town Wednesday, January 28 to take on the second ranked C.W. Post Pioneers in an East Coast Conference clash. The Panthers cut the Pioneer advantage to two, with 27 seconds left on an Alvin Vivican triple but could not pull out the win, falling 67-61. With the loss Adelphi falls to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the ECC, while C.W. Post remains unbeaten at 15-0 overall and 9-0 in conference play.

C.W. Post opened up a six point lead three times in the first 10 minutes of action, but each time the Panthers would respond and pull to within one on two occasions and two points, 14-12, with 10:11 on the clock thanks to free throws from Mike McDuffie. The Pioneers used a 10-0 run, to take a 12-point, 24-12, lead with 6:51 left in the half and would enter the break with a 36-27 lead.

The Panthers came out strong in the second half, out scoring the Pioneers, 14-7, thanks to six points from Casey Cosgrove and seven from Vivican, pulling to within two points, 43-41, with 16:27 on the clock. From there C.W. Post would not get a lead bigger then six points as the Pioneers clung to a five point lead, 63-58, with 3:52 left in the game.

After over three minutes of scoreless basketball a Vivican three pulled Adelphi within two points, 63-61, but four Pioneer free throws down the stretch sealed the win for C.W. Post.

Nicholas Carter led the way for C.W. Post with 19 points and six rebounds, while Jonathan Schmidt chipped in 11 points and six assists. Both Kenny Burkes and Kevin Spann put up 12 points, while Burkes pulled down eight rebounds and Spann grabbed six misses.

Vivican scored a team-high 16 points, while Cosgrove added 13 points and four assists. Both Sky Khaleel and David Akinyooye scored 11 points in the loss.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 31 when they travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut for a 3:00 pm meeting with the University of Bridgeport.
