Caiafa's hot hand leads Adelphi to a sizzling 89-61 win over Concordia.

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team hosted Concordia College on Saturday, January 24 in an East Coast Conference contest. The Panthers' lights out shooting 52.8 percent (38-of-72) from the floor triggered them to an 89-61 victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 9-8, overall 6-2 in the ECC, while Concordia falls to 2-14 overall, 0-18 in the league.

Adelphi never trailed in the contest. Once Concordia's Kasey Grisanti made two free throws that trimmed the Panthers lead to two points, 5-3, with 18:20 remaining in the first half, Adelphi opened the game up by going on a furious 21-1 run during an 11:10 span to increase their lead to 26-4 score with 7:10 left in the first half. During that time, six different Panthers players made buckets, which was capped off by a three point play by senior Serita Lee. Concordia cut the deficit to 16 points on a three- pointer by Kasey Grisanti with 4:03 left in the first half, however, the Panthers' went on a 13-2 rally with sophomore Ashley Caiafa scoring five points in the run.

Adelphi never relinquished controlled, as they continued its red hot shooting in the second half. Two consecutive Jasmine Travers lay-ups gave the Panthers their largest lead of the game, 36 points, 67-31, with 10:12 left in the second half.

Three Panthers players scored in double figures as Caiafa scored a game high of 20 points while dishing out six assists, Lee had 13 points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds. Travers scored 11 points.

Concordia was led by Kayla Koch who scored 17 points, pulled down nine boards, and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 28th as they travel to Brookville, New York to take on ECC rival C.W. Post.
