Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team played host to East Coast Conference opponent Molloy College on Wednesday, January 14 in Garden City, New York. The Panthers held Molloy to just 34 percent shooting for the game and 61 points in a 81-62 win. The victory raises Adelphi's record to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the ECC, while Molloy falls to 3-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

The Panthers jumped on Molloy early, out scoring the Lions, 12-2 in the opening 3:19, thanks in part to two Casey Cosgrove triples. Molloy rallied back, pulling to within seven , 17-10, on a Brian Hutchinson free throw, before a Steffon Farley dunk sparked a 13-2 run. The run was capped by an Arjan Perovic three and gave the Panthers a 30-12 cushion with 10:24 on the clock.

Adelphi's largest lead of the first half would come courtesy of an Alvin Vivican jumper that made the score, 44-25 with 2:12 to play and helped the Panthers to enter the half with a 15 point, 46-31 lead.

Molloy pulled to within nine points just 2:10 into the second half thanks to a Hutchinson lay-up and would get to within eight points, 57-49 on a Carl Palmer jumper with 11:43 on the clock. However, that is as close as the Lions would get as Adelphi would take a 19 point lead, 72-53, on a Richard Byrd jumper with 5:33 on the clock and then coast to a 81-62 win.

Palmer led three Molloy players in double figures with 18 points, while Hutchinson added 16 points and nine rebounds. Girard Fitts also reached double digits, scoring 14 points.

Byrd led all players with a game-high 25 points and pulled down nine misses, while Cosgrove filled up the stat sheet, scoring 13 points, grabbing seven rebounds, handing out six assists and collecting two steals. In addition Sky Khaleel reached double figures with 14 points, eight rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 17 when they host Mercy College at 3:00 pm.
