Adelphi and St. Thomas Aquinas played back and forth in the opening seven minutes of action as the Spartans clung to a one point lead, 14-13 with 12:53 on the clock. An Alvin Vivican triple sparked an eight minute, 18-4 run that was capped by a Vivican jumper, giving Adelphi a 32-17 edge with 2:51 remaining in the half.
The Spartans cut the margin to 12 on a Vincent Johnson three with 1:09 left, but a Mike McDuffie lay-up with 48 seconds on the clock gave Adelphi a 36-22 cushion at the break.
