Volleyball Falls to New Haven in Four

West Haven, CT - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to West Haven, Connecticut on Saturday, September 27 to take on the University of New Haven. The Panthers led 1-0 after the first set, before falling 3-1. The loss drops Adelphi to 11-4 overall, while New Haven improves to 10-3.

Adelphi picked up a close opening set, 26-24 as neither team could take more than a five-point lead (Adelphi at 14-9). The Charger were the first to have a set point at 24-23, but the Panthers then scored three unanswered points to seal the opening set.

UNH took the second set 25-15 after opening the set by taking an 8-1 lead, which eventually turned into a 13-2 lead. The Chargers followed that up with a 25-11 third set win to take a 2-1 edge.

In the fourth and deciding set the Chargers grabbed a 25-16 victory as Adelphi again started slow, falling behind, 10-5. The teams' were still seperated by just five points as New Haven led, 20-15. The Chargers then rattled off five of the last six points to take the set.

Adelphi was led by Samantha Johnston's 12 kills and 13 digs, while Amy Williams added 14 digs. Heather Mau chipped in 30 assists in the loss.

Adelphi returns to action on September 30 when they play host to Concordia at 7:00 pm in Garden City, New York.
