Hosting East Coast Conference (ECC) rival St. Thomas Aquinas College for the second straight home match on the new courts, Women's Tennis came out on top of the Spartans for a 8-1 victory. The win moves the Panthers to 5-3 overall, 3-1 in the ECC, while the Spartans fall to 3-4 overall, 2-3 ECC.
The Brown and Gold set the precedent early, sweeping the doubles matches for three Panthers points. Alda Ribeiro and Megan Margino improved their number one doubles record to 6-1 with a 8-3 victory over STAC's Alison Reeq and Caroline Gizzi. Tricia Burns and Nicole Byrnes held on for a 9-8 tie breaking win over Danielle Bicknell and Kristen Schimpf and the Panthers last doubles point.
Adelphi went 5-1 in singles competition with Ribeiro extending her number one singles record to 7-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over STAC's Reeq. Carolyn Smith played a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Caroline Gizzi, while behind her Margino went 6-3, 6-4 for a win in the three spot. Rounding out Adelphi's wins were Jamie Sussman, with a 8-2 pro-set victory over Sarah Hughes, and Burns with a 9-8 tie breaking, pro-set stop of Christine Patruno.
The Panthers will return to action Thursday, October, 2, when they travel to Bronxville, New York to play the Concordia College Clippers. First serve is at 3:00 pm.
