Sophomore Brianne McDonnell tallied the game-winner in the 54th minute to lift the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over NYIT tonight at Competition Field. The win snaps a four-game slump as the Panthers improve to 4-3-1 and 1-1 in the ECC. The Lady Bears drop to 3-4.
Adelphi dominated the first half, holding a 12-4 shot advantage against NYIT. Freshman Dorothy Connolly was solid in the half, stopping three attempts on goal.
In the second half, junior Caitlin Morrison found McDonnell who blasted the shot from 18-yards out to break the scoreless tie at 53:07. Connolly preserved the shutout with one save.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 27, as they host East Stroudsberg at 1:00 p.m.
