Panthers Fall Short Against Assumption, 3-2

Worcester, MA - The Adelphi University women's soccer team lost to Assumption College, 3-2, in non-conference action this afternoon. The Greyhounds improve to 3-4, while the Panthers fall to 3-3-1.

Assumption took an early 2-0 lead, with both goals coming off of corner kicks. The first was scored by Kristin Chirichetti on an assist by Jami Stryczula at 8:18. The second Greyound goal came in the 24th minute as Kelley Dewalt found the back of the net. The Greyhounds had a 6-5 shot advantage over the Panthers in the opening half, with Adelphi having several good attempts.

The Panthers got on board in the second half as sophomore Kim Volinski collected the loose ball on a feed from junior Caitlin Morrison to make it 2-1. Assumption pulled ahead in the 86th minute on a deflection which Stryczula managed to boot into the net. Senior Erin Klimkowski's header into the empty net at 88:42 helped close the gap, but the Panthers ran out of time.

Freshman goalie Dorothy Connolly made three saves for Adelphi, while Lauren Keating had one stop for Assumption.

The Panthers return to conference action on Wednesday, September 24,as they host NYIT at Competition Field at 7:00 p.m.
