Sept. 20, 2008

Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to St. Peter's College on Saturday, September 20 in a non-conference contest. The Panthers out shot the Peacocks, 18-10, keeping the pressure on St. Peter's to collect the 2-1 victory. The win runs Adelphi's win streak to three games and raises their overall mark to 3-4, while St. Peter's falls to 2-3-2 overall.

The Peacocks opened the scoring just four minutes into the action as Udi Naim corraled a deflection 11 yards from the Panther goal and beat Adelphi goalkeeper Thorne Holder top right corner. 20 minutes later the Brown and Gold countered as Patrick Figueiredo moved toward the end line before sending the ball back toward the middle of the Peacock box to a waiting Kemalie Preston. Preston collected the ball and rippled the net from 12 yards out, knotting the game at one.

Adelphi controlled the action in the second half, but did not pull ahead until the 65th minute. Preston was involved in the action again as he struck a shot from the outside of the Peacock box that St. Peter's goalie Hernard Santamaria turned away. However the rebound went right to Val Charalambous, whose header found nothing but open space as he gave Adelphi a 2-1 lead that was never seriously in jeopardy.

Santamaria kept the Peacocks in the game, making eight saves, while Holder picked up three in the win.

Adelphi returns to action on September 30 when they travel to Riverdale, New York for a 7:00 pm meeting with Manhattan College.
