The Adelphi University women's soccer team shutout Bentley, 4-0, in non-conference action in their season home-opener this afternoon at Competition Field. The Panthers improve to 2-0, while the Falcons start the season with a 0-1 record.
Adelphi jumped out to an early lead in the first minute of play as senior Erin Klimkowski's pass to sophomore Brianne McDonnell found the back of the net at 00:43. The majority of the first half was spent in the middle of the field with the Panthers controlling the ball, while outshooting the Falcons, 9-1. With seconds winding down in the half, sophomore Kim Volinski made it a 2-0 at 44:06 to give the Panthers a comfortable lead at intermission.
Adelphi continued its dominance in the second half, holding Bentley without a shot. In contrast, the Panthers tallied eight shots, including consecutive goals in the 64th and 68th minute. Klimkowski picked up her second assist on a cross to junior Caitlin Morrison at 63:49, while junior Kayte Kinsley accounted for the final goal on a feed from junior Amanda Popoli.
Freshman Dorothy Connolly recorded the shutout win with one save. Sophomore Angela Matinale minded the goal for the final 19:08 of play. Bentley's Kara Smith made eight stops.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday, September 4, as they travel to Philadelphia University for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
