Box Score
Durham, NH -
The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to Durham, New Hampshire on Friday, August 29 to compete in the UNH Nike Fall Classic. The Panthers took on the host Wildcats in the first game, falling 2-1. The loss drops Adelphi to 1-0 overall, while New Hampshire opens the season 0-1.
Seventeen minutes into action Dylan George played the ball upfield to Chris Banks, sprining him free for a one-on-one encounter with Adelphi goalkeeper Vincent Treglia. Banks drew Treglia out to the top of the box then slipped the ball past the rushing goalkeeper into the lower left of the net.
Then with just over nine minutes remaining in the first half, Brad Hilton passed the ball from a crowded right side to A.J. DuBois at the top of the box. A quick pass from DuBois to Kyle Urso on the left side set up the Wildcats second goal, catching the Panther defense and Treglia out of position.
The Wildcats outshot the Panthers 8-1 in the first half and had a 2-0 lead after 45 minutes of play.
Just three minutes into the second half the Panthers took advantage of a Wildcat foul in the box to decrease the deficit to 2-1. On the free kick, Alexander Kouznetsov drove the ball over a wall of defenders and into the top left of the net.
With only 1:30 left to play, Adelphi had a chance to even the score on a free kick opportunity that mirrored the Panther's lone goal. This time, however, the wall of Wildcat defenders blocked the shot.
Goalkeeper Colin O'Donnell earned the win for the Wildcats, while Treglia, with four saves, was credited with the loss.
Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, August 31 when they take on Maine at 12:30 pm in Durham, New Hampshire.
