Box Score

West Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team topped former ECC opponent, the University of New Haven, 2-1 on Thursday afternoon in their opening match of the season. The Panthers start their season 1-0-0, while the Chargers fall to 0-1-0.

Adelphi University opened scoring with a shot by junior Caitlin Morrison that was scored off a rebound in the opening minutes. Just over 10 minutes later the junior Kayte Kinsley tallied what would prove to be the game-winner, putting the Panthers up, 2-0 at the 13:08 mark.

In the final five-minutes of the half the Chargers riffled five shots including a goal which was scored in the 43rd minute. Just seconds before scoring their first goal of the season, the Chargers found the back of the net, but were called offside. Selina Moylan scored her first goal of the season at 42:58, while Elin Mattsson was credited with the assist.

The Chargers controlled a majority of the second half outshooting the Panthers 12-3, but freshman goalkeeper Dorothy Connolly grabbed eight of her 11 saves in the final 30 minutes to hold off the second-half Charger attack.

With the win, Adelphi opens the season with a 1-0-0 record for the first time since 2002. That year, they captured the Northeast Regional title and finished 17-2-2.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, August 31, as they host Bentley College in their season home-opener at 3:00 p.m.
