Baseball Drops Season Finale to St. Thomas Aquinas, 16-1

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team played host to St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) on Sunday, May 4 in the regular season finale on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Spartans jumped out to a 13-0 lead after just three innings of action and Adelphi never got going, falling 16-1. The loss gives the Panthers a record of 23-23 overall and 14-13 in the ECC heading into the post season.

Adelphi got roughed up from the start as Jake Potters gave up a grand slam home run in the top of the first. In the top of the second a single to right field and a ground out to second brought two more runs across. Seven runs came across in the top of the third as STAC took a 13-0 lead.

Adelphi scored their lone run in the bottom of the third as Mike Testani led off with single and crossed home plate on a Rob Paccione double down the left field line. The Spartans tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 16-1, the same it would be five innings later at the conclusion of play.

Potters was credited with the loss, throwing 1.1 innings and giving up six runs, while Anthony Russo tossed five innings, striking out four to collect the win.

Sixth seed Adelphi will return to action on Wednesday, May 7 when they travel to Oakdale, N.Y. to take on third seeded Dowling College in the first round of the ECC playoffs.
