Baseball Upset By Molloy, 5-2

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to Rockville Centre, New York on Wednesday, April 9 for an East Coast Conference (ECC) game against Molloy College. The Panthers fell behind 3-1 in the fifth inning and could not recover, falling 5-2. The loss drops Adelphi to 12-17 overall and 5-7 in the ECC.

For the first four innings of play neither team posted a run. Adelphi struck first as they scored a run in the top of the fifth inning. Ryan Boelsen led off the inning with single up the middle and moved to third on a Bill Melillo hit. Joe Maranino hit into a double play, but Boelsen was able to get home, giving Adelphi the 1-0 lead.

Molloy scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth without help of a single hit. The first run was walked home, the second crossed home plate on a fielder's choice and the third run was scored on a sacrifice fly. The Panthers pulled to within one in the top of the sixth as Chris Weidlein came up with the bases loaded. Weidlein grounded out, but it was enough to bring Rob Paccione home.

Unfortunately, 3-2 was as close as Adelphi would get. Molloy scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 5-2 win.

Mike McLasky was credited with the loss, having tossed six innings of no hit, three run baseball, striking out three.

Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, April 10 when they travel to Pleasantville, New York for a non-conference meeting with Pace.
